About

Welcome to the Transformational HPS network!

HPS = History and Philosophy of Science.

To learn who we are please see the Members page. If you would like to contact the network you can write directly to any of the Members.

Transformational HPS exists to support and promote work at three specific intersections with the History and Philosophy of Science:
  • research queering HPS
  • research decolonising or making global views of HPS
  • research integrating disability studies and HPS

Every member has their own particular areas of interest and expertise, which can be found on the Members page.

This network and website acts as a focal point for sharing materials, events, and opportunities relevant to these three intersections. At the moment, on the Resources page, you can find lists of member publications, recommended reading lists around key topics, and – where available – further resources such as videos of seminar presentations. The Events and News page will keep you updated on the most recent events and developments.
A word on our logo:
Our logo incorporates the Pride Progress flag, which centres people of colour and trans people alongside gay and queer people. We have modified the colours in the S, to incorporate the official colours of the International Day of People with Disability. The logo is an attempt to reflect our diversity, and our ambition to collectively be more than the sum of our parts.

Aims

  • To make more visible those students and scholars currently contributing to the history and philosophy of science who incorporate: queer thought/theory; de/anticolonial thought/theory; disability studies (broadly construed). This includes, but is not limited to, sharing relevant publications written by members and disseminating news of events organised by members.
  • To make more visible scholarship that is, or could, directly inform the history and philosophy of science, from researchers who may not be directly concerned with HPS. This includes sharing relevant events organised by non-members, publications etc., which are of interest to the network.
  • Gather and share resources for teaching and research which might aid in increasing the presence of these questions and intellectual interests around the world, particularly on university campuses. By providing dedicated attention to those developing such resources, we hope to increase their likelihood of securing further funding.
  • Provide a setting in which collaborations can potentially develop within and between our three intersections of interest.
  • Present to publics the variety and extent of active research in these areas.
  • To actively and publicly support members from marginalised groups, in order to increase the security of their position within the fields of history and philosophy of science.
  • Eventually be able to offer small amounts of funding to individuals, either to attend international scholarly meetings or to further their research and so increase the number/variety of resources.
